Character: Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn
Fandom: Batman: the Animated Series/Batman comics
Timeline: After the events of the animated series
History/Personality: Harley once had a perfectly normal life. She attended Gotham University on a gymnastic scholarship while trying to fight her way through the tough but prestigious school of Psychology. She was a smart girl but not smart enough to make the grade... at least not on book smarts alone. It was thanks to her feminine skills of persuasion that she made it through. Perhaps not the most ethical thing to do but she was actually very passionate about [psychology, especially abnormal and criminal psychology. After getting that grade on her graduate thesis bumped up to an A she was easily accepted for a job at Arkham Asylum upon her graduation.

Truthfully she planned to write a tell-all book on one of the more famous inmates, but after just one session with the Joker her focus changed. She found herself attracted to him and sympathetically listened to his stories about a rough childhood and a masked vigilante that was always too hard on him, driving him further down the path to madness. She fell in love with the Joker and, after seeing Batman drag him battered and bruised back to his cell after an escape attempt, she decided to change professions. Throwing together a harlequin costume and gathering up a few supplies, she managed to bust Joker out of Arkham and begin their life of crime together.

Though Harley was hopelessly in love and completely devoted to the Joker, he didn't quite feel the same way about her. He placated her at first, playing up his affection for her in order to manipulate her, but as time passed there was hints of some actual feelings there. Harley, as always, grabbed up every scrap of sentiment offered to her, using it to feed her delusion that they were just another happy couple. Now and then the Joker would seriously injure her, either on purpose while in a mad rage or accidentally while focused on killing the Batman. Still she stuck by her man, at least until after one screw up he tossed her out of his gang.

Rather than go crawling back this time begging for Joker to take her back, she decided to prove herself to him by stealing a diamond from the Gotham museum. It was there she ran into Poison Ivy who was stealing some rare plant samples. They fled the cops together and so started their partnership. The two became close, and though after only a few weeks Joker came to take back what was his - both Harley and the diamond she stole - Ivy became Harley's regular refuge for when things were sour with the Joker. In order for Harley to survive living on the toxic waste dump with Ivy, she had to be given a special serum that made her immune to most poisons while boosting her energy level (because more energy was just what Harley needed). Ivy also tried to talk Harley out of always returning to the Joker, telling her that he was an abusive bastard that was just using her, though all the while subtly bullying Harley into following her own schemes. Harley apparently has a type, and that type is bossy psychos.

Harley still always came back to the Joker and secretly entertained thoughts of marrying him and settling down. Deep down Harley still has a good heart and rarely does she actually seek to hurt someone, but her love for the Joker keeps her blind to his actions and leads her to constantly forgive him for the things he does. Without him or Ivy there to guide her, Harley's usually lost, confused, and somewhat paranoid, but still an almost good person.

Animal: Lemur

First Person Sample: Alright, who's the wise guy? You can't just go around kidnappin' young girls like this an dumpin' them in barns! Hello? HelLO?! Hey, Mistah Kidnapper Person, you out there? I'm just givin' you a friendly warning here! My Puddin' ain't gonna take too kindly to havin' me stolen like this. If I were you, I'd return me right now and then take a good long vacation somewhere at least two timezones away!

Ugh, a barn? Really? What is this psycho, that guy from Texas with the chainsaw? I've got hay in places hay shouldn't be...

Third Person Sample: Harley spent a good hour or so picking straw out of her suit. It was amazing how she could dodge bullets time and again without a scratch, but wake up in a pile of hay and every freaking piece could find a way to poke its way through the fabric. She knew leather would make this whole ensemble look pretty kinky, but it was times like this she thought it would make her suit a bit more practical. She certainly wouldn't have to waste so much time grooming herself in times like these if her costume was made of sturdier stuff.

Satisfied that she was looking less like a scarecrow (the farm kind, not Dr. Crane) she wandered out of the barn, ready for some heart-stopping action and breath-taking heroics! Or... villanics? Wasn't fair that they didn't get their own version of the word... but more to the point, she was certain she'd run into her kidnapper now! Anytime now! It's not like she could just walk around this big old farm place thingy without there being a guard somewhere, right? No one's that stupid.

Being coiled and ready to spring for so long was getting exhausting. Harley straightened herself up, looked around, then let her shoulders slump. Nothing. Not even one muscle-bound henchman. What kind of operation was this guy running here, anyways? Harley stamped her food against the ground, the dirt making for a less-than-dramatic muffled thud.

"Hey! Anyone out there? I'm escapin' here! Betchya wanna stop me, right?!"
